PLANTER SPECS AND TIPS
  • Inner Scraper – between the disc openers – check every 100 acres per row (NEW HARDENED ONES ARE LASTING LONGER - DEPENDING ON CONDITIONS WE HAVE SEEN DOUBLE THE LIFE OF OLD STYLE) – replace when bottom measures 5/8” or less.  MAKE SURE TO USE LOCTITE 222 when using these Inner Scrapers
  • Disc Openers – Replace at 14 ½” or less – shim to 1” touching.  (Best way to check is to hold one disc firmly - other disc should be able to spin with slight resistance).
  • Brush Meters – Upper Blue Brush – frayed, damaged or missing bristles – for longer life take out plate when done and clean out brushes (no compressed air).
    • Don't forget to check the plates - if needing new plates consider updating to the 2.0 Quick release hub.
  • Row Unit Chains – replace if worn/stiff.  Do not overlubricate (especially when using row unit electric clutches)  Lube with Chain Lube at beginning of season and in the middle of season.
  • Gauge wheels - Should be touching disc when raised and no side movement.  Replaceable bushings and shaft if needed to tighten up.
  • Driveline and transmission bearings - check for rough bearings and replace as needed to provide consistent seed spacing and trouble free planting. - Don't forget the bearing on Seed Meter Drive.
  • Fill up Pneumatic Air Bags in off season to check for leaks and confirm air compressor pumping correctly.  Drain Tanks and Clean/Replace Filter.
  • PTO PUMP?  Be sure to change out oil and filters every 2-3 seasons.
  • Electric Drive Planter - Check Battery Charge - Replace/Charge Batteries.  Kinze 4900 planter - Contact us if wanting Generator checked out before season.
  • 2 point pivot bolt - GREASABLE - free up before season and make sure taking grease.
  • VAC and BULK Fans - Check BEARING on Fan before season to make sure spins free and no play in fans.
  • No Till Coulters - New at 16" replace at14.5"
  • Don't forget the Graphite and/or Talc - Recommend Graphite for Corn and Untreated Soybeans and Talc for Treated Soybeans.  If high humidity or other sticky treatment on corn may also want to sprinkle in talc.
